Gareth Bale's role under Jose Mourinho at Tottenham as Sergio Reguilon debut date is revealed

Here's all the news from around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Where Bale could play in Mourinho’s Spurs team

Tottenham’s emphatic 5-2 win over Southampton on Sunday could give Jose Mourinho a dilemma over where to play Gareth Bale.

The Welshman, who has returned to the club on loan from Real Madrid, could be used as a winger on both flanks, or in the No.10 role behind Harry Kane.

Bale might also be used as cover for the England international, able to operate as a false nine.

Mourinho: Dele doesn't need to be sacrificed

“I'm comfortable across the front. I feel like on the left I can go down the line, cross it in, on the right, my right's actually not too bad at crossing, not so much shooting, but I can cut in on my left and shoot,” Bale said in an interview with Peter Crouch on BT Sport.

“In the middle I feel comfortable because I can go either side and I can drop off. Obviously I've been playing on the right a lot of my career towards the end now. I'm happy to just be on the pitch to be honest.”

Mourinho will also be looking to shake up his back four after a less than convincing defensive display at Southampton and the arrival of Sergio Reguilon.

We picked out five talking points following Spurs’ first Premier League win of the campaign.

What the future holds for Alli and other Spurs outcasts

Dele Alli is just one of several players whose Tottenham futures are in doubt ahead of the close of the transfer window on October 5.

The 24-year-old was left out of Mourinho’s squad for Sunday’s trip to Southampton, and has since been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

There are a number of others - including Paulo Gazzaniga, Ryan Sessegnon and Juan Foyth - who are on the periphery at the club.

Mourinho reveals when Reguilon will be available for selection

Sergio Reguilon will be ready to make his Spurs debut by “the end of the week”, according to Mourinho.

The left-back, signed from Real Madrid, is not yet fully fit, and won’t be selected for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup game against Leyton Orient.

But with Spurs back in Europa League action on Thursday with a trip to North Macedonian side Shkëndija, Mourinho has claimed Reguilon is not far away from making his first appearance.

“You ask me about Sergio and I think Sergio will be quite quick. He is in the best period of his recovery,” he said .

“He's training today (on Sunday while Spurs played at Southampton) with one of my assistants. He cannot play on Tuesday but I would say he will be available for us maybe for the end of the week.”
