Zinedine Zidane has revealed that Gareth Bale is closing in on a move away from Real Madrid.
The former Tottenham star has been the subject of intense speculation since the Frenchman returned to the Santiago Bernabeu towards the end of last term.
Zidane has been tasked with revamping the Spanish giants and widespread reports had suggested that the Welsh star would not feature in those plans.
Bale sat out out the pre-season friendly with Bayern Munich, and speaking to the press Zidane confirmed the reason for Bale's exclusion.
He said: "Bale did not play because he is very close to leaving.
"We hope he leaves soon, it would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.
"I have nothing personal against him, but there is a time where things are done because they must be done, I have to make decisions, we have to change.
"The exit is the coach's decision, and also of the player, who knows the situation.
"The situation will change, I do not know if in 24 or 48 hours, but it will, and it's a good thing for everyone."
Gareth Bale's next destination remains unclear as his high wages could prove to be a stumbling block in any potential move, and speaking earlier this week, Zidane said that he can't rule out the prospect of the Welsh star sticking around.
He said: "He has a contract, he is here and what I can say is that anything could happen. I have to respect all the players, he is with us and he is a Real Madrid player.
"We will see what will happen. His role has not changed compared to in June."
