Gareth Bale's position amongst Premier League highest-earners as contract details emerge

Gareth Bale is set to become one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League when his loan move from Real Madrid to Spurs is confirmed this week.

Bale is expected in London on Thursday after Spurs and Real agreed on a season-long loan worth around £13million.

Despite interest from Manchester United, Bale's sights were firmly set on a return to the club he left in 2013 for a then world-record transfer fee of £90m.

After winning four Champions League titles at the Bernabeu, Bale has lost his way in Spain after falling out of favour with manager Zinedine Zidane.

But Spurs boss Jose Mourinho pushed chairman Daniel Levy to pursue a deal for the Wales star and he is now set to get the player he has been coveting.

Bale's salary at Spurs will put him among the Premier League's top earners.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leads the way after signing a new contract worth over £350,000-a-week.

He will sit eighth in the list of highest-paid players with Spurs paying £250,000-a-week with bonuses.

Meanwhile, former Spurs midfielder Darren Anderton believes Bale's arrival will bring a proven match-winner to the squad.

"To come back to somewhere where you are loved really does make sense," he said.

"It has to be great for all parties and after watching the game on Sunday oh boy do Spurs need it, someone who can go and win a game with a bit of magic and creativity and flair.

"He has a great mentality, he carried the Wales team, he carried the Tottenham team when he was here, winning games on his own. He is exactly what Spurs need. This is one that everyone is very excited about.

"He has still got that speed and once he gets going you can't catch him. He scores goals, makes goals, he does it all. Is he going to be the same player that left, we certainly hope so.

"I think he is going to be a different player, mentally he will be even stronger because of what he has had to deal with at Real Madrid. He has had to take a lot of stick and has got on with it.

"Coming to Spurs, the expectation will be what he enjoys but he will not get carried away. I don't think he has anything to prove."
