Gareth Bale's agent shuts down talk of £54m return to Tottenham as uncertainty over Real Madrid star's future continues

Gareth Bale's agent has dismissed talk of a potential return to former club Tottenham this summer.

Spanish outlet Marca claimed Spurs were willing to pay £54m for the Welsh superstar, who despite being keen to stay has been deemed surplus to requirements at Real Madrid under boss Zinedine Zidane.

However, the same report also suggested Spurs would be unable to match the Welshman's wages, which are believed to be around £600,000 a week.

Real are actively looking to move the 30-year old on this summer, but Bale is reportedly happy to see out his contract in the Spanish capital, which runs until 2022.

However, talk of a move back to Tottenham has been rubbished by the player's agent Jonathan Barnett, who told the Daily Mail "nothing has changed".

Bale's future has been the subject of intense speculation all summer, with Manchester United among several big names to have been linked.

A move to China has even been mentioned as a possibility, with Shanghai Shenhua believed to be interested, although reports in Spain suggest it's not a move that interests the player.

Nevertheless, the Spanish giants remain keen on moving Bale on.

Real finished third in La Liga last season, and Zidane is keen on giving his squad an overhaul this summer.

Los Blancos have already spent £250m in this window, having snapped up Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo.

Getting rid of Bale will be key to Zidane's plans for further recruits, with Real fully aware of their Financial Fair Play obligations.

Bale is currently away with team mates at a pre-season training camp in Montreal, with Real set to take on Bayern Munich in Houston, Texas, in four days time.
