Gareth Bale‘s agent has delivered a telling response to suggestions of an impending departure from Real Madrid, saying the Welshman has no plans at all to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.
The former Tottenham man has continually run afoul of the Madrid media and even fans, as a result of perceived underperformance and injuries.
That has, in turn, led to suggestions he may look to leave the Spanish capital – with late deadline day rumours even implying Spurs were looking to bring him back to north London.
Those links were quickly shot down, though, and now his agent, Jonathan Barnett, has reiterated that Bale places great emphasis on the quality of life he and has family have in Spain, along with the length of his contract remaining.
“Gareth still believes there is a future there at Real Madrid,” Barnett told TalkSport.
“He has two and a half more years there, his family is settled and he has a lovely lifestyle. He can pick and choose where he wants to play.”
Regarding the rumours of a January deal with Spurs, those claims are dismissed by Barnett, who also says it’s a possibility that Bale will see out his contract in Madrid and leave on a free transfer.
“He [Daniel Levy] may have [gone to Spain], but Gareth is very happy there. Let’s be realistic, for most cubs, he is out of their league, financially that is.
“It is all well and good to say, ‘give up that money and go and play somewhere else’, but it is not all about money. It is about his lifestyle and his children, who have grown up in Madrid.
“I don’t think [he’ll return to Tottenham], no. He’s in a very fortunate position.
“When his contract is up hopefully he will sit down with me and his family and decide what he wants to do.”
Bale has played for Real Madrid since 2013, winning one LaLiga title and four Champions League trophies so far.
His team are top of the table after 22 games this term, three points clear of Barcelona, though Bale’s involvement has been sporadic with just nine league starts and two goals to his name.
