Gareth Bale's agent opens door to Real Madrid return amid Tottenham struggles

Gareth Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett has opened the door for the Tottenham star to return to Real Madrid,

Bale is currently on loan with Tottenham, rejoining the club on a season-long loan deal ahead of this season after seven years in the Spanish capital.

The Welshman won all there is to win at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he still had a frosty relationship with fans, and indeed with manager Zinedine Zidane, and that ultimately saw him ushered out ahead of this season.

Upon his temporary departure from Real Madrid, it felt as though all bridges had been burned for Bale, but his agent, Barnett, says there 'wouldn't be a problem' if the La Liga giants wanted the 31-year-old back.

"He still loves Madrid, that it's a marvellous city to live in. We have to wait and see what happens. It's very early, we are in February," Barnett told Goal Espana.

"It wouldn't be a problem. They have to decide if they want him to return, if he can play for Real Madrid and all that. But I sense that you should ask Zidane if he wants him, though I don't think so."

He added: "Bale maintains contact with the Real Madrid players, I am sure that he watches some of their games."

Though Barnett says Real Madrid haven't been in touch 'at all' with Bale during his time in North London, which hasn't exactly gone to plan just yet, the Wales international making just 16 appearances across all competitions and scoring four.

Barnett also defended Bale over claims his attitude was poor in Madrid, suggesting some fans will realise how badly they treated the now Tottenham loanee when they look back at the situation.

"He doesn't have to do anything, he spoke on the field," Barnett added when asked what Bale could have done to ensure a better relationship with Real Madrid fans.

"He's a player, that is his responsibility. His responsibility is not to be a friend of the fans.

"He did everything correctly on the field and he was incredibly good with the club. He never said anything bad and won many things.

"Lots of big goals in the history of Real Madrid were scored by Gareth. That's why I believe that when they look back after, they (fans) will see how idiotic they have been with him."
