Gareth Bale's agent drops hint Real Madrid star will remain at Tottenham beyond this season

Gareth Bale's agent has revealed that there is a very real possibility that the Real Madrid winger will remain at Tottenham past the end of this season.

Wales international Bale has joined former club Spurs on a year-long loan deal after a torrid time in the Spanish capital of late.

Injuries, as well as being frozen out somewhat by Zinedine Zidane, left the 31-year-old seeking a new club for this season.

And Bale managed to secure a sensational return to the Premier League with the club he first broke onto the scene with - Spurs.

The ex-most expensive player has only initially joined on a one-year loan deal, but his stay in north London could be extended, according to his agent.

Jonathan Barnett told BBC Sport: "I am sure that if things really worked out well, we'd have no problem.

“This is the club he wants to play at. I don't see any problems if he wants another year.”

Jose Mourinho was dealt a blow when Bale underwent his medical though, and it remains to be seen when he will be ready to make his second debut.

Bale is suffering with a knee injury sustained on international duty, and is facing a month on the sideline.

Tottenham were aware of Bale's injury prior to signing him on a season-long loan in a deal worth £20million last week.

But Mourinho admits after a closer assessment the club is no closer to knowing when the 31-year-old will be ready to play.

"I don't know when Gareth can be back," said Mourinho. "The only thing that I know is that the motivation is high, he is so happy to be with a club of his heart.

"When a player has this motivation, many, many times you can shorten the period of recovering and getting fit."
