Gareth Bale finished the 2020/21 season with the best minutes per game ratio of any Premier League player.
Despite this, rumours have been circulating in Spain that Bale could retire from football after the European Championships this summer.
According to a report from Marca, the Welshman is considering hanging up his boots for good due to his love for 'the beautiful game' fading in recent years.
Bale still has 12 months left on his contract with Los Blancos, although they considered trying to permanently offload him last summer but could only manage to send him to Tottenham on a season-long loan.
However, with Carlo Ancelotti now appointed as Zinedine Zidane's successor at the Bernabeu, there could be a fresh start for Bale at Real Madrid.
And the 31-year-old's agent, Jonathan Barnett was quick to quash any rumours of an early retirement.
“As usual in the Spanish press, it is not very reliable news, so I’m not surprised,” he told MadridistaReal.
Bale's time with Spurs was a mixed bag, although the winger bagged 16 goals and three assists despite limited minutes for the north London club.
With his agent dispelling any rumours of retirement, Bale could still play again for Tottenham as the club have first refusal should a Premier League club bid for him - although football.london understands that this expires in July.
Bale himself has remained coy regarding his future, refusing to rule out any of the options during a press conference last week.
"I know Carlo Ancelotti, he's a great manager, I get on with him really well, we had some great times in the past", he admitted.
"But I haven't spoken to anybody. I'm not thinking about my future.
"As soon as the Euros finish, I'm sure I'll have a conversation and then I'll go from there but I'm not thinking about anything until after the Euros."
