Gareth Bale ruled out of Wales v Belgium World Cup qualifier as Rob Page's team suffer major blow

Wales have suffered a major blow in the hours leading up to their crunch clash with Belgium as captain Gareth Bale has been ruled out of the clash entirely.

The Real Madrid forward was taken off at half time during Wales' 5-1 drubbing of Belarus on Saturday night, with Robert Page stating that was always the plan.

After the match, Bale insisted there was no injury but his game time had to be managed given he had not played competitively in two months prior to the Belarus game.

Bale underwent his own recovery session on Monday, with Page later saying he was not in line to start against Belgium, but that he might play some part in the match off the bench.

However, it has come to light that Bale is in fact not included in Wales' 23-man squad which they have submitted to UEFA ahead of the clash at Cardiff City Stadium.

Prior to the Belarus game, in which he earned his 100th cap, Bale had not played since the 0-0 draw with Estonia in the Welsh capital back in September owing to a hamstring problem, stirring ire among some pundits in Spain.

Ethan Ampadu - who is suspended - and Cardiff City's Mark Harris are also not included in the match-day 23. Kieffer Moore returns from his suspension to be included.

The Belgium game on Tuesday evening will determine whether Wales secure a home play-off semi-final in March.

Wales need to win to ensure they have a home fixture, however a draw would be good enough if Turkey fail to win in Montenegro by four goals and/or Norway fail to beat Netherlands by three goals.

Wales' 23-man squad in full:

Goalkeepers : Wayne Hennessey, Danny Ward, Adam Davies.

Defenders : Chris Gunter, Neco Williams, Ben Davies, Chris Mepham, Joe Rodon, Connor Roberts, Rhys Norrington-Davies, James Lawrence.

Midfielders : Joe Allen, Harry Wilson, Aaron Ramsey, Jonny Williams, Rubin Colwill, Joe Morrell, Will Vaulks, Daniel James, Brennan Johnson, Sorba Thomas.

Forwards : Tyler Roberts, Kieffer Moore.
