Gareth Bale reveals the role Jose Mourinho played in Tottenham return and makes silverware pledge to fans

Gareth Bale has hailed the role Jose Mourinho played in convincing him to complete a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Bale completed a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid on Saturday evening, marking an emotional return to the club he left for a then world record fee seven years ago.

Spurs fans, many of whom still have fond memories of his dazzling first stint at the club, have predictably reacted with delight, with supporters gathering outside the club's Enfield training base to greet the 31-year old as he arrived to complete his move.

Mourinho is also likely to pleased with the move, having previously tried to sign Bale when he was in charge at Real Madrid, and again when he was at Manchester United.

He now appears to finally have got his man, and Bale admits the draw of the charismatic Portuguese coach was a factor in his decision to come back to North London, adding that he already has his sights set on winning silverware.

He told BT Sport: "He's spoken to me about a few positions that he would like me to play and obviously I'm happy with that.

"He was a big reason for me coming back here, he's a household name and a winner. He's the perfect fit for Tottenham. We need to win trophies and he knows how to do that better than anyone.

"I know every Tottenham fan is desperate for a trophy and we'll be trying as hard as possible in every competition to do that."

Spurs fans will likely have to wait a little longer before he makes his second debut for the club, with the winger currently suffering from a knee injury that is expected to keep him out of action until October.

However, he insists he can't wait to get started, adding that he's excited at the chance to work with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, both of whom found the net during the resounding 5-2 win over Southampton on Sunday.

"I haven't trained since the Wales camp so I need to get on the training pitch," he said.

"Hopefully, I can hit the ground running in my first game, whenever that may be.

"Harry's done incredibly well since he burst onto the scene and scored a lot of goals. To play with him and Son is an exciting prospect for all of us. If we're all pushing in the same direction it could be a very exciting season."
