Gareth Bale reveals love for Cardiff City while holding this retro Bluebirds shirt

Gareth Bale is undoubtedly one of, if not the, best footballing talent to come out of Cardiff.

So it remains a long-held desire of Cardiff City fans to see the Wales superstar in a Bluebird shirt.

That perhaps explains the excited reaction to a BT Sport video showing Bale holding a retro Cardiff shirt from the 1995/96 season and talking about his affection for his hometown club.

Bale was invited to peruse several shirts which represent landmarks in his life: including shirts from Real Madrid, Southampton and Tottenham, his former clubs.

But he also held a 1995/96 Cardiff shirt — sponsored by the South Wales Echo — which would have been worn by stars such as Carl Dale, Scott Young and Jason Perry.

Asked about his connection to the Bluebirds, Bale said: "It's where I grew up and my uncle actually used to play for them.

"When I was younger I went to watch a few games and obviously Cardiff is my home city.

"I always look out for Cardiff wherever I am, check the scores and check they're doing well."

A couple of Bluebirds fans then cooked up a bold theory about the Welsh talisman, currently struggling a bit at Real Madrid, signing for Neil Warnock's side. They're hopeful Bale could one day play for Cardiff City.
