Gareth Bale opens up on his Tottenham future amid Mauricio Pochettino setback

Here are your Tottenham morning headlines for Tuesday, June 1.

Bale opens up on future

Gareth Bale has been speaking about his future ahead of Wales' Euro 2020 campaign.

“Obviously there’s been a lot of things written about whether I’m doing this and doing that,” he said during a press conference.

“For me, the main thing is I don’t want to say anything that’s going to cause more chaos or more drama or cause a distraction. I just want to focus on the Euros.

"I don’t want to say anything that is going to cause any problems on what I am doing or what I am not doing. When the Euros finishes for us then I will sit down and decide what I want to do.”

Speaking about the retirement reports, he added: "Yeah, well. It’s one of those.

"As I said, I’ll sit down after the Euros and decide what I want to do. I want to give everything into this Euros and put in everything I can like we do in every single game. If I say something then it’s just going to cause even more chaos so there’s no point.”

Manager search latest

Tottenham Hotspur's attempts to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to the club have hit a major roadblock in the shape of PSG, but they have not given up yet, football.london understands.

football.london understands that when it was put to him, Pochettino indicated his interest in a return to north London.

The 49-year-old has made no secret of his intention to become Spurs boss again one day and admits he has unfinished business in N17 after two title challenges and a Champions League final appearance without silverware at the end of it.

Pochettino has not yet settled in Paris and is believed to still be living in a hotel in the French capital with his coaching staff, while his wife Karina has, on the whole, remained back in their UK home as their youngest son Maurizio continues his professional career with Watford.

There is also the internal politics of managing a 'super club' like PSG and all of the demands that entails for a manager like Pochettino, who prefers to foster a close-knit family atmosphere at his clubs and did so at Tottenham, Southampton and Espanyol.

There was a hope within Tottenham that a return could be tied up within a fortnight of their final day victory at Leicester City but that hope has been hit by the desire of PSG to keep their man.

As it stands, PSG have no intention of allowing Pochettino to leave the club, with Real Madrid also believed to hold a long-standing interest in him succeeding Zinedine Zidane.

football.london understands that Tottenham have not given up hope yet of bringing Pochettino back to the club next month and much could come down to the man himself and his relationship with the PSG hierarchy.

Martinez coy on Spurs talk

Roberto Martinez fielded a question on his future during a Belgium press conference today.

Martinez is currently fifth-favourite with the bookmakers, and the former Everton and Swansea City boss was asked about the possibility during a Belgium press conference ahead of this summer's Euro 2020.

But Martinez would not be drawn on the question, asserting that all his focus is on securing a European Championship title for the Red Devils.

"We have been looking forward to this tournament for three years," he said. "Now is not the time to talk about my future."
