Gareth Bale loses the plot as first ever hole in one caught on camera during California golf trip

Gareth Bale went nuts as he scored his first-ever hole in one during a round of golf in California. The Wales legend made the amazing shot on a par three on one of the championship courses at Torrey Pines in San Diego, sparking wild celebrations among him and his friends.

Even better for Bale, the whole thing was caught on camera and came with some hilarious commentary from one friend, who declared that the former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur star "doesn't just do bicycle kicks" after sinking the ball from 200 yards.

In the video posted on the 33-year-old's Instagram page, Bale can be seen practicing his swing, prompting chuckles from his mates, before the friend filming foreshadows events by saying: "Hole in one time, never had one. This is the hole to do it".

The impressive swing which follows looks good, with the Welshman and friends watching intently as the ball soars through the air and lands on the green, before dropping in the hole and sparking wild scenes. Bale wheels away from the tee with arms outstretched, as if he had just scored a winning goal, before jumping around, screaming and laughing while those with him do exactly the same.

"Oh my god, he got it," said the friend behind the camera. "Oh my god, wow. This is a video for the ages. Wow. Gareth Bale. He doesn't just do bicycle kicks!"

Despite it being his first hole in one, the incredible shot should come as no real surprise given Bale's talent on the golf course. The former Wales captain, who retired from both club and international football in January, has become infamous for his love of the sport in recent years and now reportedly plays off a handicap of two, having previously been a "respectable six" back in 2015.

The star hones his skills on the three-hole golf course he had built at his home in Cardiff, with the holes modelled on the 17th at Sawgrass, the eighth at Royal Troon and the 12th at Augusta.

While he has insisted previously that golf is just a hobby, however, his agent has opened the door for a pro golf career now that he has hung up his boots. A few more shots like these and he could be well on his way.
