Gareth Bale latest as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur eye summer swoop but Real Madrid demand extraordinary transfer fee

Real Madrid have placed an extraordinary £150m price tag on the head of Gareth Bale , according to reports in Spain.

Spanish outlet AS say Real boss Zinedine Zidane plans to sell the Wales superstar as part of a summer overhaul at the Bernabeu.

The newspaper report that Real sporting director Jose Sanchez met Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett in Madrid in Monday to explain the situation.

Barnett insists Bale wants to stay in Spain, but Real's stance has placed a number of clubs on high alert.

Manchester United have coveted Bale for years, while Tottenham see him as the player who can take them to the next level and win the Premier League for them.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have also been linked with Bale, with Real saying he can go to a club of his choosing.

However, there is a catch. According to AS , Real Madrid want £150m for Bale, who already earns in excess of £350,000 a week.

Why Gareth Bale must end Real Madrid misery and come home to Premier League

Those mind-blowing figures for a player who turns 30 in three months' time, and who has a history of injury problems, will put off potential suitors.

Only two players in the history of football have moved for bigger sums - Neymar, from Barcelona to PSG, and Kylian Mbappe, who switched from Monaco to PSG.

Each were significantly younger than Bale at the time of their transfers.

Bale moved from Spurs to Real for a then world record fee of £86m six years ago and has scored 102 goals in 227 games.

However, despite that impressive record and goals to win Champions League finals, he remains under fire from a large section of the Madrid fan base who continue to jeer him.

AS call Bale 'the Cardiff Expresso' and say Man Utd and Bayern Munich are the two clubs to have expressed interest thus far.
