Gareth Bale just stopped his live post-match interview in its tracks for a quick chat

Gareth Bale admits he was proud of his Wales players after they booked their place in the last 16 of Euro 2020 - and enjoyed a quick chat with Italian boss Roberto Mancini midway through his own live TV interview afterwards.

Matteo Pessina's first-half strike earned Mancini's men all three points at Stadio Olimpico as Rob Page's side had had Ethan Ampadu sent off.

Switzerland made it nervy as they defeated Turkey 3-1 in the other Group A game in Baku.

The results mean Wales and the Swiss ended the group stage on four points apiece, although the Red Dragons took second place due to their superior goal difference. You can read more on their next opponents here.

Bale addressed his side's achievements after the game in the Italian capital - although his pitch side interview was interrupted by Mancini, whom he spoke with for several seconds while being questioned about the game.

"We knew it was going to be a very difficult game from the start," Bale said on ITV Sport.

"There was a lot of defending, a lot of running and there's some very tired bodies out there.

"I'm proud of the boys, we wanted to try and get a result, but I guess it made no difference, we finished second anyway."

Bale was then asked about Ampadu's red card but he broke off to greet Mancini while being interviewed.

"We have to just recover again now. We'll patch everyone up and get going again," he concluded.

Wales will take on the runner-up of Group B in the last-16 on Saturday.

It means they will take on one of Belgium, Russia, Finland or Denmark in Amsterdam at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Kick-off is at 5pm.

They will discover their opponents on Monday night when Group B reaches its climax.
