Tottenham Hotspur could be set to complete a stunning swoop to re-sign Gareth Bale.
Seven years after leaving the club for Real Madrid, football.london understands Spurs are locked in talks with the Spanish giants over a deal to bring him back to north London.
The finances of a transfer have always proved to be a major stumbling block when Bale has been linked with a return to Tottenham in recent windows.
However, his relationship with Real has deteriorated so much so that the La Liga champions are willing to pay a large chunk of his wages to sort out a loan deal.
It would be a major coup for Spurs to land Bale, who left the club for a then world record transfer fee in 2013.
Bale scored 55 goals for Spurs in a six-year spell, and arrived at the Bernabeu Stadium in the same summer Mourinho had been relieved of his duties.
While the Welsh star didn’t work with Mourinho at Madrid, his admiration for him is obvious.
When the 57-year-old replaced Mauricio Pochettino in charge of Tottenham last season, Bale’s comments on the Portuguese clearly show he would want to be part of a Mourinho team.
"Having [Jose] Mourinho there is an amazing statement from the club, I think he's a serial winner," he told BT Sport.
"Tottenham want to win trophies and I don't think there's a better partnership than Mourinho and Tottenham together to try and win some trophies."
Along with the Bale deal, Spurs are also in talks to sign his Real team mate and left-back Sergio Reguilon.
