Gareth Bale filmed arriving at Madrid airport ahead of flight to London as Tottenham return nears completion

Gareth Bale has arrived at Madrid airport as he inches closer to a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Bale, who's been with the Spanish champions for seven years since leaving North London, is set to fly to the UK on Friday to complete a season-long loan deal with Jose Mourinho's side.

He was pictured arriving at the private terminal of Madrid airport on Friday morning, and will arrive in London to sign a contract later on in the day.

The 31-year old is believed to have already undergone his medical ahead of the move, while Real team-mate Sergio Reguilon is set to travel with the Welshman as he nears his own move to the club.

The move will bring an end - for now - to a largely successful stint for Bale, who won two league titles and four Champions Leagues with the club.

"It's the shot everyone expected to see", Ben Ransom said on SSN.

"Gareth Bale has arrived at the private terminal at Madrid airport, sunglasses on, family alongside him. He's gone through and is preparing to board a jet to London."

It comes after relations between Bale and boss Zinedine Zidane souring, with the player also enduring a difficult time with the Spanish press and local media. Despite that, Bale is reported to have said a personal goodbye to the Frenchman and wished him well ahead of the new season.

A move back to the club which helped launch his career will likely be hugely popular with Spurs fans, and with Mourinho, who tried to sign Bale when he was in charge at the Bernabeu and again when he was at Manchester United.

Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett claims the pair have already spoken about the move, and Bale is believed to have been given assurances on his role within the team.

He said: "Gareth has spoken to Jose and explained how Spurs have a special place in his heart."
