Gareth Bale, Dele Alli and the Tottenham players Jose Mourinho is working with in training

Tottenham have a host of players on international duty this week, with the likes of Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all in action for their respective countries.

That means Jose Mourinho will be working with a depleted squad back in north London as Spurs prepare to return to Premier League action.

We’ve taken a look at the players who are still at Enfield during the international break.

Son Heung-min

Mourinho will probably be pleased that Son is staying put. South Korea are not playing, so the forward has a couple of weeks to refresh and recover after a busy start to the season.

He has started the season in exceptional form, too, so having Son in peak condition for the next run of fixtures will be a boost for Spurs.

Spurs' locally trained player issue in Europa League

Gareth Bale

Bale is still not fully fit after returning to the club on loan from Real Madrid. That means he has missed out on the Wales squad for upcoming Nations League games against Ireland and Bulgaria.

But it will, from Mourinho’s perspective, give the 31-year-old valuable time on the training pitch as he edges closer to his first appearance of the season.

Dele Alli

It’s hardly surprising that Alli doesn’t appear to be in Gareth Southgate’s England plans at the moment. He has been dropped by Mourinho and speculation over his future continues.

This week in training will be an important one for the 24-year-old, then, as he looks to force his way back into both the Spurs team and the England setup.

Tanguy Ndombele

A promising start to the season isn’t enough to earn Ndombele a place in the France squad. Didier Deschamps has plenty of quality to pick from, but the Tottenham midfielder was probably in consideration.

He will need to become a more regular starter - and a more consistent performer - for Spurs, though.

Moussa Sissoko

Sissoko has also missed out on a place in the France squad, despite being a regular pick for Deschamps in previous years.

The 31-year-old has 63 caps for his country, but a lack of fitness might have been behind his absence this time.

Erik Lamela

Lionel Messi was the match winner again for Argentina as they beat Ecuador in their latest World Cup qualifier.

Lamela was not there, though. Instead, he will be looking to further impress Mourinho in training after what was a positive display in last weekend’s thrashing of Manchester United.

Lucas Moura

A fairly low-key start to the season means there’s no place for Moura in Tite’s Brazil squad.

He is a determined professional, though, and he will no doubt be training hard with Bale’s imminent return likely to threaten his first-team chances.

Carlos Vinicius

Vinicius is yet to earn his first Brazil cap at the age of 25, so he’ll hope his move to Spurs last week will help change that.

The striker, on loan from Benfica, will be eager to catch Mourinho’s eye ahead of his Tottenham debut.

Joe Hart

Hart’s England days are long behind him, so the aim for him will be to establish himself as second-choice ahead of Paulo Gazzaniga.

Paulo Gazzaniga

Like Hart, the 28-year-old will want to make sure he’s in the frame to play if Hugo Lloris is absent for any reason.

Gedson Fernandes

Fernandes seems to be a bit of an outcast at Spurs, now into his second year on loan from Benfica. He has been left out of the Europa League squad and even his best efforts in training might not change Mourinho’s mind at this point.

Jack Clarke

Clarke, who is now training with the first team, is showing plenty of promise at the tender age of 19. He’ll hope to build on that early progress over the next week.

Cameron Carter-Vickers

The USA international might yet leave Spurs before the close of the domestic transfer window. For now, though, he remains at Tottenham.

Danny Rose

Rose is another player whose days at the club seem to be numbered. He’s a long way off the England squad and there seems to be no way back for the 30-year-old under Mourinho.
