Gareth Bale breaks Tottenham players' silence as European Super League plan collapses

European Super League plans are no more and Tottenham Hotspur forward Gareth Bale is more than happy to move on from the matter.

Spurs as well as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United all signed up to become founding members of The Super League before pulling out 48 hours later.

Intense pressure from fans and authorities led to City and Chelsea announcing they were withdrawing from the breakaway competition first before the other Premier League clubs followed suit.

And on Wednesday, Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli admitted that the European Super League cannot continue without the six Premier League clubs.

Players across the Premier League have been commenting on the Super League plans and now Bale has become the first Spurs ace to do so.

"Yeah, of course, us as players, all we’ve been focusing on is trying to get the new manager to settle in," the Welshman told Sky Sports. "As far as I’m concerned, the matter’s closed, it’s not happening, so yeah, we’re all good and we carry on as normal."

Bale was speaking after scoring the equaliser as Spurs came from behind to beat Southampton 2-1 in Ryan Mason's first game in charge.

It was also the first game since the sacking of Jose Mourinho and Bale revealed what changes Mason had made.

“Obviously they came at us and pushed hard in the first-half, we’ve only had a couple of days with the new manager to try and do a few things," he added. "It’s going to take a little bit of time, but we had a good chat at half-time about a few things we could improve slightly and we came out in the second-half and did that.

"We controlled the game in the second-half and deserved the victory in the end.

"Just ourselves, a few positional issues with the team and to be a bit more patient on the ball. Very good team talk at half-time and played really well in the second-half.

“Maybe just a bit of patience, a few positional issues with the team, but we’ve only had a few days to work on it - so it’s normal. Just minor teething issues and we continue now to improve. We’ve got a few days to work until the cup final and we go from there.

“I know everyone dives in along the floor fast, so the plan was to lift it and hit it softly into the far corner.

"Not just for me, but for the team and for the club, it’s not about me. Everyone talks about me a lot, doing this, doing that, but it isn’t about me. I don’t care about me, I just care about Tottenham and it was important to get the win tonight. It gives us a chance of the top four and we’ll fight until the end.

"Maybe just to be on the front foot a bit more. We’re a big team, we have great players, we need to attack more, we need to try and stay higher up the pitch and I think we did that today."
