Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has weighed in on the 'very sad' Gareth Bale situation.
The Welshman's relationship with manager Zinedine Zidane has broken down completely and it's led to Bale being left on the sidelines.
He didn't travel to Manchester for Real's clash with Man City last night. It is thought he did not travel because he knew he would have no chance of featuring in the match.
The 31-year-old has played just two out of Madrid's 12 matches since sport restarted.
Calderon believes there's no longer a place for Bale in Madrid and he urged the winger to stop wasting his time.
"If Zidane stays with Real, which I think is certain, then he (Bale) will have to find a new way," Calderon told the BBC.
"Apparently he (Zidane) got what he wanted at the end of the season. He said La Liga was the main objective. I am sure he will continue so there is no place unfortunately for Gareth Bale.
"The problem is he has two more years' contract. It's sad to see him wasting his time because he is still for sure fit and in good shape."
Bale has been consistently linked with big clubs across Europe and came close to a move to China last summer but it fell through at the last minute.
His current deal is said to be worth £600,000 per week, money that is not likely to be available at any potential suitors.
"It's very sad," added Calderon.
"It's a pity to see a player like him in the stands. I think his skill and talent has not gone, he is still a good player who could be playing at a high level in any team in the world.
"Therefore I think they will have to find a solution to end this agony for the sake of both sides.
"If he doesn't want to reduce his salary, which would be understandable, they will have to find another way to finish this situation."
