Gareth Anscombe surprises shoppers with mobility scooter trip to the supermarket

Wales star Gareth Anscombe is beginning his long road to recovery after surgery on the knee injury that destroyed his Rugby World Cup dream.

And the 28-year-old isn't letting the problem get in the way of him getting his grocery shopping done.

Anscombe has shared a video of himself driving around a supermarket on a mobility scooter as he gets on with life without rugby for a while. His presence seemed to catch the eye of fellow shoppers, with a few surprised looks coming his way when people seemed to realise who he was.

He is expected to miss almost the entirety of next season after suffering the injury in the opening World Cup warm-up against England.

He underwent surgery last week, sharing a picture from his hospital bed. Anscombe damaged his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and cartilage, saying after the worst was confirmed: "It's been a pretty tough 24 hours to take but I’m very thankful and humbled for all the kind well wishes.

"I'm still wrapping my head around what’s happened and what’s next but I’m excited to watch this Wales team go on and do something special."

The Ospreys man is not the first Wales star to make use of a mobility scooter, following in the footsteps of team-mate Jonathan Davies who used one last year after suffering a serious foot injury.
