Gardner Minshew wins Offensive Rookie of the Month

It’s been a crazy ride for the Jacksonville Jaguars during their first four games. They lost their starting quarterback for a while after Nick Foles broke his collarbone just a few snaps into his Jags career and had to replace him with sixth-round rookie Gardner Minshew II. Long story short, he’s done nothing but deliver, accumulating 69.4 percent (81-of-121) of his passes for 905 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception and a quarterback rating of 106.9.

Of course, the nation has taken note of him as he’s won two Rookie of the Week awards and he now has a Rookie of the Month award to add to the collection. His nomination made him the first Jaguar to win the award since linebacker Clint Ingram did in November of 2016. Minshew is also the first offensive rookie to win the award since December of 2003, when quarterback Byron Leftwich won the award. Overall, he’s now the seventh Jag to win a rookie of the month award, putting him in a group with the great Fred Taylor amongst notables.

In his last game, Minshew led the Jags to two second half comebacks against the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High. He finished the game 19-of-33 for 213 yards and two touchdowns and aided the team to 20 second half points against a very talented Broncos defense. He’ll have a chance to test his skills against an even better group this Sunday as the Jags will be hosted by the Carolina Panthers and their No. 1 ranked passing defense.
