Gardner Minshew looking to attack the Titans early after slow Week 2 start

Due to the unexpected collarbone injury to veteran quarterback Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew’s career as a 2019 sixth-round selection has gotten off to a crazy start and the rookie has had to process a lot over the past few weeks. However, with nearly two full starts under his belt, things are beginning to slow down for the rookie.

Tuesday afternoon, Minshew told the media that he gained a great deal of confidence from his first official start this past Sunday against the Houston Texans, and it was evident as he began to make plays down the field as the game prolonged.

“Yeah, I’d say [I gained] both comfort and confidence. As we get going, I think we just have to tap into that earlier. We have to get rolling,” Minshew said. “We have to go on the attack early. We kind of waited and let our defense play the game, and we have to go out and win games as an offense.”

In Sunday’s game against the Texans the Jags got off to an extremely slow start. They were only able to score a field goal in the first half, and of course, there was the late game surge in which Minshew and the offense put together a 14-play drive for 63 yards that ended with a four-yard touchdown catch by DJ Chark Jr.

With the Titans coming into Thursday’s game ranked sixth in point average (30 PPG), there is no doubt the Jags will need Minshew and the offense to click early. It appears he’ll have better offensive line play potentially with Cam Robinson now healthy and back in the mix, which may kick Will Richardson in to right guard. Minshew should also have veteran receiver Marqise Lee to help out, too, as he was a full participant in practice Tuesday.

It’s already been a crazy week with Jalen Ramsey’s situation unfolding, however, if Minshew gets cooking early and can lead the Jags to victory Thursday, it would be huge for the team and their fanbase who could use some uplifting right now.
