Gardner Minshew earns his fifth Pepsi Rookie of the Week award

After the worst game of his career against the New Orleans Saints, Gardner Minshew II got back to his winning ways this past Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. As a result, he found himself winning his fifth Pepsi Rookie of the Week award Friday.

Minshew started off Sunday’s game slow and it resulted in him having a low completion percentage of 46.9 (15-of-32). However, he came on strong in the second half and started to find a rhythm, which resulted in him passing for 255 total yards and a touchdown with no interceptions on the day.

His performance Sunday made him the only player in in league history to have over 200 passing attempts and come away from that span with two-or-fewer picks. He also became the first player in league history to throw for over 10 touchdowns with two-or-fewer picks, which goes to show fans how well he’s taken care of the ball when it comes to avoiding interceptions.

Sunday’s victory gave Minshew a 3-3 record as a starter. As most are aware, he replaced Nick Foles Week 1 after the veteran broke his collarbone and got his first official start the following week. Sunday’s performance by Minshew was also good for the fifth-best of any rookie, according to Pro Football Focus, as he earned a grade of 73.1.
