Gardner Minshew adds fourth Rookie of the Week award to his collection

As DJ Khaled would say, Gardner Minshew II has added “another one” to his collection. By another one, I’m referring to another Pepsi Rookie of the Week award as it was announced that the rookie won the title for Week 5, making it the fourth of his career.

With Week 5’s title, Minshew has now won the title four of five times. The only week that he didn’t win the title was Week 2 when New England Patriots  defensive end Chase Winovich won it.

Minshew’s nomination came after the Jags’ valiant effort against the Carolina Panthers, which unfortunately resulted in a 34-27 loss. And while Minshew had three fumbles, he kept the Jags in the game with a career-high of 374 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. That was good enough to register him a 101.9 passer rating against the league’s top passing defense.

The Jags will need the rookie phenom to continue his success through the air while cleaning up his fumbling issues this week with the New Orleans Saints coming into town. If he can, the Jags should register their second consecutive home win and keep pace in a shaky AFC South division.
