It’s not too late to expand your herb horizons this summer. Garlic chives (Allium tuberosum) flower later than regular chives, so you can keep the fresh chive season going for longer. Their mild garlic flavour is delicious in egg dishes or chopped over salads. Buy fresh seed and sow in an outdoor seedbed, transplanting in the autumn in clumps spaced 20cm apart.
