Now is the moment to give a boost to plants in containers that have become too big to repot. If worm-seeking birds have excavated space below the pot rim, just spread a fresh layer of compost on top; otherwise scrape away a little finger’s depth of compost first (you can put the old stuff on the compost or use it as a mulch). Add a sprinkle of slow-release fertiliser if you can’t face remembering to feed during the growing season.
