A sprinkle of chives will zhoosh up humdrum winter dishes. Dig up a clump from the garden, pot with multipurpose compost and move to a bright indoor windowsill for easy access. Or buy a pot of supermarket chives and divide between a few pots (keep in a shaded spot outside for a week, to acclimatise to lower light levels).
