Gardener's £3.79 'no scrub' method removes moss on driveways so it 'never' comes back

As the weather begins to gradually warm up, many people will be noticing that their driveways and paths are starting to get a rather unwelcome and arguably unsightly visitor - moss.

And it's not the easiest thing to get rid of either - it's a resilient plant that doesn't want to give up its territory. It seems as though when you finally remove it, out of nowhere it's back springing up again in no time.

Homeowners and renters are often left baffled, wondering what they can do when moss returns, and they don't want it to come back - but Mrs Hinch fans have come to the rescue with an innovative method.

In the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, keen gardeners revealed a little-known hack to get rid of moss for good - without using any chemicals.

All you need is a household product that you likely already have in your cupboard.

One woman wrote: "Hey all, we moved recently and have noticed our back garden, where the slabs are, keep going green almost like mould.

"We jet-washed it a week or two ago but it's back again. Does anyone know what is causing this? Or is there anything I can use to stop it from coming back? It also does seem to stain."

In the comments, many people did suggest chemicals, but some are more hesitant to use things like this due to kids and pets.

But people claimed that there was a holy grail product that would get rid of it for good - washing powder.

One person commented: "Sprinkle Daz washing powder on it then leave for the rain to wash off or hose it."

While another suggested: "I sprinkle Aldi biological washing powder (£3.79) on the patio and driveway, where we get green moss. Washing powder kills the moss, just sprinkle, you don't need to scrub - it looks like snow!

"We get a lot on the drive, it's in the shade. My neighbour asked me about it, did the same and it got rid of his moss too."

Someone else wrote: "I had the same problem and being on a huge area was also a problem. I used a box of biodegradable washing powder.

"Just sprinkle over the moss and leave! That was two years ago and it's never returned."
