Garden waste collection in North Tyneside still going ahead

North Tyneside Council has confirmed it is still running its garden waste collection service, saying it is "sufficiently staffed".

This comes after councils in Gateshead and Durham temporarily scrapped their garden waste schemes as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite this, North Tyneside Council will still continue collections, saying it has enough staff and it can keep them safe.

Phil Scott, head of environment, housing and leisure at North Tyneside Council, said the decision to go ahead with the service was made following discussions about safety.

“Following discussions around safety and feasibility, the council is pleased to say that our garden waste collection service will be able to continue despite the coronavirus pandemic," he said

"We are sufficiently staffed and have measures in place to ensure social distancing is carried out at all times, in line with government guidance. This should be of great use to our residents.”
