Garden Rescue fans roast £6k makeover as 'total mess' that looks like 'building site'

Garden Rescue viewers took an 'awful transformation' to task for a makeover with an outcome said to resemble a building site.

Typically the 'after' of a makeover should amaze, delight or surprise, but viewers felt none of these things in an episode that re-aired last night.

An English couple hailing from Romsey called Karen and Colin said they needed help and said their garden was a "total mess".

What should have been a relaxing home retreat with an Italian feel still looked like a work in progress in the end.

Originally broadcast earlier in the pandemic, the garden transformation had a £6,000 budget and featured a £500 decorative boulder, the Mirror reported.

The show follows garden transformations carried out with the help of experts like gardener Charlie Dimmock and designers Harry and David Rich, also known as the Rich Brothers.

It had been explained to the gardening professionals that her job was particularly "challenging" as she was a reverend in a hospital, which often involves end-of-life support.

The couple hoped for an "Italian feel," as they love Italy, with them wanting a space to entertain family and friends.

After hearing pitches from Charlie and the Rich Brothers, the couple choose the former's vision for their garden, with the TV presenter changing the space completely.

This included creating a pergola, a water feature made out of terracotta and buying an olive tree, which cost £500.

She also introduced boulders, which cost £540, to the garden.

Following the big reveal, Karen and Colin were impressed with the home garden makeover that had taken place, with their new garden described as "wonderful" when they first saw it.

And although the couple were themselves pleased with their new outdoor space, viewers of the BBC programme however didn't seem to be as keen on the garden transformation.

Taking to social media towards the end of the episode, one viewer tweeted: "I like parts of it but it looks unfinished."

This sentiment was shared by others on Twitter last night.

"I said exactly the same," wrote one viewer, whilst another responded: "I know for 6k I was expecting a lot more."

Another viewer tweeted: "This is the worst #gardenrescue I've seen."

Whilst one viewer posted screaming emojis and commented last night: "£500 for the olive tree."

"This is the worst garden rescue I’ve seen," one viewer kicked off, as a second agreed: "It looks like a building site."

One viewer wrote: "Anyone seen #gardenrescue? I'd be like f*** if I came home and [someone] had done that to my garden. And it only cost £6,000, I honestly can't believe it."
