Garden Neighbourhood Kampus gets a slice of the action as Breadflower set up Christmas residency

Festive floral workshops, indie winter markets and tasty bagels are in store as Bread Flower brings alternative festivities to Garden Neighbourhood Kampus this month.

Established in lockdown 2021, long-term friends Maya Black and Scarlett Jamieson combined their love of sourdough baking and flower arranging to form Bread Flower - a baker and a florist.

And now the pair are setting up residency at Kampus , close to Canal Street, over Christmas with a full-on festive takeover of the Bungalow from November 26, featuring a café, florist, bagel shop and packed event calendar.

Throughout the residency there will be an optional £1 added to each bill at the Bread Flower cafe which will be donated to Wood Street Mission which helps support families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford.

Open from Thursday to Sunday in the lead up to Christmas, the café will be serving up topped open bagel sandwiches to eat in or take away.

Bags of sourdough bagels available by the half or full dozen until they sell out.

There will also be bouquets, wreaths and table centrepieces available for pre-order, as well as smaller bunches available in store.

The duo’s much-loved bundles – that proved a hit during their original stint at Kampus - are also back, bringing together freshly-baked bagels, schmears - flavoured cream cheese - and hand-tied flowers.

The Bungalow at Kampus – the garden neighbourhood developed by HBD and Capital&Centric - will host a Hanukkah-inspired supper club in collaboration with Le Social which will be a night of food, wine, storytelling and games with a menu of traditional dishes in an intimate setting.

Indie Winter Markets will bring together local independent traders like Beaches and Cream, Shy Seagull and Prestwich Gin for unique Christmas gifts.

Guests can also get consciously creative with floristry workshops running throughout December, be it wreaths, table centrepieces or a special session on ditching the plastic for sustainable Christmas decorations.

Yin Yoga with Emma from Thorlby Yoga will provide some rest and respite from the Christmas chaos - albeit with some mulled wine, festive food and socialising.

The Bread Flower cafe will be open at the Bungalow Thursday and Friday (8am – 2pm), Saturday and Sunday (10am – 4pm) from Friday November 26, 2021 until the end of January.

Maya Black, at Bread Flower, said: “We’re really looking forward to opening the Bread Flower cafe in the Bungalow. Kampus has been a home for us for a few months now, hosting various events like our supper clubs and yoga brunch, and of course delivering our bundles, but this four-week residency will be bigger and better than anything we’ve done before.

“We’ve got lots of lovely festive events lined up, like our Hanukkah supper club, Indie Winter Markets with wonderful local traders and weekly floral workshops too; offering what we hope is a genuine independent alternative for shoppers with delicious produce and unique gifts.”
