Garden goals! RHS Tatton Show opens with explosion of flowers and bee garden with its own bath in sizzling sunshine

A colourful floral extravaganza has burst to life at Tatton Park, as the RHS Flower Show returns for the first time since 2019.

Thousands of visitors are set to flock to the parkland in Cheshire over the next five days for one of the first big events to return to action this summer after lockdown restrictions eased.

And given the sizzling heatwave, it's set to be a glorious day out in the sunshine this year with a wealth of gardens and attractions for visitors young and old to admire.

Naturally given the heatwave, one of the most talked about gardens is the Bee Happy in the City display which boasts its own bubbling BATH at its heart as well as stylish bee accessories.

Amateur gardener Denise Reddin, from Oswaldtwistle, won a competition to design the garden for BBC Radio Lancashire, and was inspired by the cobbled streets of Accrington in the design as well as a bath that was used in her own allotment to grow flowers and red roses in the display represent the emblem of Lancashire.

It joins other competition winners from BBC Radio Manchester and Merseyside with the winning garden to go on display at the new RHS Garden Bridgewater in Worsley afterwards.

There are 27 show gardens this year across the 28 acre site, which also sees the return of the huge floral marquees and a dedicated family zone - with children under 16 getting in free with an adult.

The largest feature garden is the RHS Flower Power Garde designed by Anca Panait with an impressive 60 different plant varieties, while the Cancer Research UK Legacy Garden is also a stunning showpiece that visitors can walk through and reflect.

The Young Designer Garden competition returns, with one called On Tropic which imagines how gardens will look in the north if global warming continues to push up temperatures.

New to the show this year is an extraordinary display in the Fleur De Villes tent - with a host of leading florists creating couture dresses on mannequins all made of flowers

The exhibition is supporting Breast Cancer Research, with the dresses inspired by the colour pink to tie in with the charity.

Over 60,000 visitors are expected to visit the RHS Flower Show this year, which has taken three weeks to build - with around 2,000 gardeners involved.

There will be a raft of talks and demonstrations from experts in the Practical Gardening Theatre, while the BBC Gardener's World team will be spotted across the site as they film a BBC special from the show due to air on Friday night on BBC2.

On the final day, on Sunday July 25, there will be the return of the ever-popular plant sell off from 4pm - where people can get their hands on the glorious blooms from the gardens and stalls.
