May 09--The City of Aurora is collaborating with the Fox Valley Garden Club to offer a preview of the 2016 Aurora Farmers Market during the Garden Club's plant sale Saturday.
The Plant Sale and Market Preview will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway.
The event will introduce the market's local producers and allow visitors the opportunity to meet local farmers and growers, organizers of the event said. In addition, visitors will have the first chance at all the early spring produce fresh from the farm, including asparagus, rhubarb, lettuces and more. This is also an opportunity to learn about the upcoming special events planned for the 2016 season at Illinois' oldest farmers market, city officials said.
At the same time, the Fox Valley Garden Club's annual plant sale will offer a variety of annuals, perennials, vegetable plants and more.
The event also includes Tomato Day in Aurora. The first 1,000 children will receive a free cherry tomato plant to take home and nurture.
City officials said the 2016 Aurora Farmers Market will have many new vendors, amenities and initiatives at all three locations:
