Gardai warn public to 'watch out' after rise in number of attempted burglaries in Ireland

Gardai have issued a festive message to the public across the country - telling them to "watch out" after a rise in the number of reported burglary attempts.

In the build up to Christmas, units around the country have been facing calls about attempted burglaries, with some criminals even pretending to be gardai to gain access to houses.

As a result, gardai are trying to reach as many people as they can with advice on what to do to make sure your Christmas isn't ruined by a burglary.

And the Tipperary gardai are taking a page out of a classic Christmas carol to do so.

All together now: "You better watch out. You better not cry. Be in no doubt. Gardaí are telling you why. Thieves want to ruin your fun.

"Please make a list. Take this advice. Remember to lock up all that is nice. Thieves want you to have none.

"They know when you are sleeping. They’ll be gone before you're awake. They don’t care if you’ve been bad or good. But everything you like they’ll take.

"So, you better lock your doors. Your windows and your sheds. Make sure they can’t get in and leave you miserable instead. Thieves want you to have none!"

The festive jingle continues on for three more verses of advice to prevent thieves from ruining Christmas.

It comes after a rise in the number of attempted burglaries in Offaly.

A spokesperson said: "Tullamore Garda are investigating a number of burglaries that occurred yesterday evening at a number of locations around housing estates in Tullamore. They are appealing for information to people in the Cill Bán, Driom Liath, Chancery Park, and Carrig Cluain estates if they saw any suspicious activity between 2pm and 9pm to contact them at 0579327600 or 1800 666 11."
