Gardai warn drivers as they enforce 60km/h speed limit on stretch of M8 motorway

Gardai are to begin enforcing a speed limit of 60km/h on a stretch of the M8 at Fermoy, Co Cork.

The new speed limit will be in place from the Fermoy bridge crossing the Blackwater River and will be in affect for northbound and southbound traffic.

This is due to essential work which will be carried out on the motorway over the next few weeks, CorkBeo reports.

A garda spokesperson said: "M8 road users: Please be aware that there will be a special speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour in force over the next few weeks on the M8 at the Fermoy bridge crossing the Blackwater River.

"The new limits will be in effect on North and South bound lanes as required. This is to ensure a safer working environment.

"We'll be paying extra attention to this stretch in order to help keep workers safe and appreciate your co-operation. Please heed the special limits at all times and arrive alive."
