Gardai visit multiple shops in Tipperary in clamp down on sale of alcohol to minors

Gardai have found a number of shops selling alcohol to minors in Tipperary after a recent operation.

Officers in the Cahir District found seven out of 10 premises that were checked were breaching the rules.

Some places did not ask for I.D while gardai warned that buying alcohol for minors is also an offence.

A garda spokesperson said: "An operation into the sale of alcohol to young people under 18 years was conducted across Cahir District. Seven out of 10 premises visited carried out a sale. Some never asked for I.D.

"The sale of alcohol to a young person under 18 is an offence and it is also an offence for anyone to buy alcohol for them.

"Community Policing Unit in Cahir will continue to carry out these operations."
