Gardai use shrewd technique to arrest man and recover woman's phone following theft

Gardai in Dublin have shown their astute side after they arrested a man following a phone theft on a tourist in the city centre.

After the woman realised her phone was taken, she rang the number out of hope, only to be greeted by an unknown voice.

The man on the other end told her that she could have the phone back if she paid money for it.

The woman reported this to the guards, and a false meet-up was organised where the man believed he was going to be meeting the woman to receive the cash.

However, gardai were waiting for the man instead and a swift arrest was made.

They took to Twitter to say: "When a visitor to Dublin had phone stolen she did what we all would do and rang it to be greeted by an unknown man.

"She was told she could have it back if she paid money, the lady reported to Pearse Street Gardai who met the man and arrested him.

"We met the lady at Dublin Airport and returned phone."

Everyone loves a happy ending!
