Gardai upgrade investigation after man's body found in 'unexplained circumstances' in Dublin

Gardai have upgraded their investigation into the death of a man in "unexplained circumstances" to a criminal probe.

The man, who was aged in his 60s, was found dead and with "significant injuries" at a house at Dun Saithne Green in Balbriggan, north county Dublin, on Wednesday afternoon.

His remains have since been taken to the city morgue at Whitehall where Dr Heidi Okkers, Locum Assistant State Pathologist, is conducting a post-mortem examination.

The scene at the home in Balbriggan is currently undergoing a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau, while CCTV and door to door enquiries are ongoing.

An incident room has been set up at Balbriggan Garda Station, and a family liaison officer has been provided to the man's family.

Gardai are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

A spokesperson said: "Gardai in Balbriggan continue a criminal investigation into the discovery of a body of a man in unexplained circumstances in north county Dublin on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

"Gardai attended a domestic residence at Dun Saithne Green in Balbriggan where the body of a man in his 60s was discovered with significant injuries.

"The body of the male has been removed to the city morgue, Whitehall where a post mortem has been commenced this afternoon by Dr Heidi Okkers, Locum Assistant State Pathologist.

"The scene is currently undergoing a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. CCTV and door to door enquiries are ongoing.

"An incident room has been established at Balbriggan Garda Station under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer.

"A family liaison officer has been provided to the family of the deceased and An Garda Siochana continue to keep the family informed.

"An Garda Siochana are appealing to any person with any information in relation to this death to contact Investigating gardai at Balbriggan Garda Station 01-8020510, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
