Gardai under fire in South Dublin as youths throw glass bottles in anti-social attack

The gardai have come under fire on South Anne Street as a group of approximately 200 youths threw glass bottles in a persistent anti-social behaviour attack this evening.

Gardai are currently interacting with the "organised group” of youths engaging in a public disorder in Dublin’s city centre.

At approximately 9pm, glass bottles and other missiles were thrown at gardai on South Anne Street from the group.

Gardaí deployed "soft cap” public order units with shields and dispersed crowds along South Anne Street and Dawson Street.

Grafton Street and Dawson street were sealed off by officers tonight.

Gardai moved people on from areas such as St Stephen’s Green and the Iveagh Gardens to prevent crowds gathering.

A garda spokesman said: “Over the course of the evening An Garda Síochána has been dealing with crowds across Dublin South City Centre.

“At this time, Gardaí have dispersed crowds from Stephen’s Green, Temple Bar and South William Street.

“An Garda Síochána's public order operation is currently ongoing.

“An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time.”
