Gardai track down novice driver who filmed 'dangerous overtake' on Snapchat

Gardai have arrested and charged a motorist that was involved in a series of dangerous driving incidents.

The reckless novice driver recorded footage of themselves behind the wheel while overtaking another vehicle at speed.

The clip was then posted to popular social media app Snapchat.

The arrest was made following a series of recent incidents which involved dangerous driving on Irish roads.

In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in south Kilkenny investigating a number of recent incidents of alleged dangerous driving, have identified a suspect.

"This novice licence holder dangerously overtook another vehicle at speed on a regional road and recorded it on Snapchat."

On Monday, the individual was arrested and charged with dangerous driving. They're set to appear before the District Court soon.

Elsewhere, the Naas Roads Policing Unit detected a motorist that was driving whilst using a mobile phone.

The driver, who was an unaccompanied learner permit holder, had no L plates displayed and no tax since June 2019.

The vehicle was seized and proceedings will follow.

The Dublin Castle Roads Policing Unit also stopped a vehicle while conducting a checkpoint.

The driver was an unaccompanied learner that was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
