Gardai to ramp up checkpoints as extra officers drafted ahead of Dublin Level 3 Covid lockdown

Extra gardai have been drafted in an effort to ensure new Covid-19 restrictions are being followed.

Dublin is facing a litany of new restrictions from tomorrow after the county was upgraded to level 3 in the government's 'Living with Covid' roadmap.

From tomorrow there will be no indoor gatherings allowed while pubs, restaurants and cafes will that only serve food indoors will have to close their doors once again.

Gardai across the city and county will be out on foot, in cars and on bikes as part of Operation Fanacht to ensure the public are following guidelines.

Garda personnel from the surrounding counties will focus on patrols of destination public amenities and open spaces.

Under the new restrictions gatherings of up to 15 people outdoors can take place.

Meanwhile a maximum of 6 people from 1 other household can visit your home.

Since Gardai have been granted new powers officers have been told to adopt the approach engage, educate, encourage and, as a last resort, enforce.

Checks of pubs and other licensed premises will continue to take place as they have since the first coronavirus lockdown back in March.

Deputy Commissioner, Policing and Security, John Twomey said, "As a community we all need to come together to once again protect ourselves and our most vulnerable. It is vital that every person plays their part and adheres to the public health regulations and guidelines to reduce the increasing spread of COVID-19.

"An Garda Síochána will do its part in ‘Keeping people Safe’. Operation Fanacht is intended to work with communities to support Government and Public Health Guidelines”.

"Local Gardaí are here to support individuals and local communities, in particular the most vulnerable in our society during this time. If you are feeling isolated or need help with shopping, collecting your prescription or anything else similar, please contact your local Garda station”.
