Gardai to quiz jailed paedophile John Gibson over fresh sex abuse claims

Gardai are set to quiz caged paedophile John Gibson over fresh sex abuse claims.

A man made new allegations just days after the Christian Brother was jailed earlier this month.

Detectives took a detailed statement from the alleged victim, who claims he was abused by the “monster” 72-year-old while a student at the North Monastery Secondary School in Cork city in 1979.

He told the Irish Mirror: “It was a tough day [giving his statement] but the guards were brilliant.

“Five hours and a 28-page statement later and it’s good to go.

“Just have to let the guards and DPP get on with the job now.”

The man’s partner was also asked to make a statement.

Gibson may be brought from prison for questioning as early as next week.

Paedophile teacher John Gibson was quizzed by gardai 25 years ago - but was only jailed this week

The complainant said: “He was a monster.

“I’m probably lucky as I’ve had a good life despite what happened.

“The day I read the story was the first time I told anyone – my partner of 35 years. Hopefully I’ll have the strength of the Wexford kids, I believe I do. Maybe I’ll get justice at last.”

The man paid tribute to the brave man and woman who testified against Gibson, leading to him being jailed for two years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on April 1.

He was convicted of three counts of indecent assault against a girl, aged 12 at the time, and a boy, then 14, while he was a teacher at the CBS secondary school in Wexford town during the 1980s.

Campaigner and Amnesty chief Colm O’Gorman insists the two victims have given strength to others to come forward.

Victims of sex beast Christian Brother John Gibson speak of terror suffered

He said: “A conviction in cases like this can be very difficult to secure, so I know it will mean an awful lot to the woman and man who came forward.

“In any case in a conviction like this it often means that others come forward who have been abused by this particular man or others.

“I really hope the two victims realise they have helped other people.

“I hope they understand they will have done an awful lot for other people as well.”
