Gardai to arrest Irish sports star over alleged sex attack

Gardai are poised to arrest and quiz a famous Irish sports star over the alleged sex assault of a young woman in a car.

Detectives are gathering evidence before lifting the man following the reported attack near a pub in West Dublin on October 11.

One senior source told the Irish Mirror:  “The alleged injured party has made a complaint naming the sports star.

“Because of that he will have to be lifted and interviewed. The woman’s allegations will have to be put to him.

“Firstly, all the evidence has to be secured, all the CCTV gone through and the forensics have to come back. This is crucial.

“Once this is completed, a senior officer will make a decision as to when to arrest the alleged perpetrator.”

The alleged victim in the case walked into a west Dublin Garda station on October 12, claiming the man forced her into a sex act in the back seat of a car near a pub.

She made a complaint and CCTV footage was seized from surrounding areas.

Officers in Crumlin then took over the case as it is closer to the site of the alleged attack in Drimnagh, which the woman claims took  place at 9pm the previous night.

A Garda spokesman said: “Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.

“Owing to the nature of the investigation we will not be commenting further at this time.”

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecutions is deciding whether to charge the same celebrity with the alleged rape of another woman in a Dublin hotel last year.
