Gardai target school buses as major multi-agency checkpoints carried out in one county

Gardai in Kilkenny stopped a number of school buses on Thursday as part of a multi-agency operation.

Officers from the road policing unit as well as Road Safety Authority officials checked a number of buses throughout the day.

Buses were checked for road worthiness with no problems reported by gardai in the area on this occasion.

A spokesperson said: "Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit are conducting Multiagency Checkpoints in the county today, ensuring that school busses are compliant with the Road Traffic Acts. These checkpoints ensure that buses are safe to carry children to and from school every day."

Pictures from the operation show officials checking tyres of numerous buses along busy roads.
