Gardai swarm supermarket and arrest man after burglaries at shops and church in Tipperary

Gardai arrested a man in connection with a break-in at two Tipperary supermarkets and a church overnight.

Officers in Roscrea received reports of the break-in at a shop on Birr Road shortly after 4am on Friday morning.

A trolley was used to smash a window before items were taken and a suspect fled the scene.

Gardai were alerted by the alarm going off and quickly began a search for the suspect.

Just under an hour later a man, aged in his 40s, was arrested by Gardaí in connection with the incident.

He was brought to Templemore Garda Station and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardai subsequently were made aware of burglaries at a church and another supermarket in the Roscrea area overnight.

The man who was arrested has since been charged in connection with all three incidents and is due to appear before Nenagh District Court this morning at 10.30am.
