Gardai storm late night house party dishing out multiple €100 fines for attendees

Gardai doled out a number of fines after breaking up a house party in Co. Tipperary last week.

A number of people were found to be breaking Covid restrictions banning house visits and social gatherings after throwing a party in Tipperary town last Saturday.

Gardai were called to a property in the town at around 12.30am on Saturday January 23 and found a small house party taking place, Tipperary Live reports.

They were forced to break up the gathering and dish out €100 fines each to six young people in attendance.

New Garda powers were introduced following the reintroduction of Level Five Covid restrictions in December.

Under current restrictions all household visits are strictly prohibited while social gatherings both indoors and outdoors are also banned.

The restrictions are in place until at least March 5 before they are reviewed again by the Government.

Gardai handed out 16 fines on Thursday after breaking up multiple house parties across the country.

Parties were interrupted by officers in Limerick, Cork, Galway, and Kilkenny/Carlow in the space of just 24 hours.

2,400 fines have also been issued by Gardaí to date to people who left their homes without a reasonable excuse.
