Gardai storm apartment and seize €45,000 worth of drugs in Kerry town

Garda seized €45,000 worth of drugs after storming an apartment in Co Kerry.

The bust was made at around 11.30pm on Monday in the town of Tralee.

Local officers and members of the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit carried out the search under warrant.

The apartment on Upper Castle Street was raided and officers found eight bottles of suspected xanax tablets with an estimated street value of €8,000.

And as the search continued gardai also found 37,200 of suspected cocaine that had been split into 19 bags.

Officers also seized several mobile phones and a weighing scales.

All of the suspected drugs have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A man in his 30s was arrested during the operation and was brought to a local garda station.

A garda spokesman said: "A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and was brought to Tralee Garda Station. He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996."
