Gardai stop man 'on a spin to clear his head' nearly 100km from home amid lockdown

Gardai were forced to turn back a man "on a spin to clear his head" who was nearly 100km from home.

The officer stopped a driver at a checkpoint on the Military Road in Glencree, Co Wicklow on Sunday evening.

Current lockdown measures state that members of the public should not travel further than 2km from their house unless their journey is essential.

However when stopped by gardai, the motorist in Co Wicklow claimed that he had merely left his house "on a spin to clear his head".

And officers soon discovered that the driver was living in Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny - just under 100km from Glencree.

A garda spokesman said: "Another day done. Lovely empty junction at Military Road, Glencree.

"Empty because Garda on Covid checkpoint had just sent a chap "on a spin to clear his head" back home. Home was in Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny!!

"Must have a very big head if it needs that much clearing."
