Gardai stop car speeding at 158km/h with toddler 'not properly restrained'

Gardai in Co Louth stopped a car speeding at 158km/h with a toddler "not properly restrained" inside.

Officers from Drogheda came across the vehicle on the M1 motorway.

Gardai also said the driver was on a learner permit and driving unaccompanied.

The motorist was also failing to display L plates.

A garda spokesman said: "Drogheda RPU stopped the above vehicle for going 158km per hour on the M1 in Charleville, Co Louth.

"The driver was on a learner permit and was driving unaccompanied, had no L plates displayed and also had a child under 3 not properly restrained.

"Proceedings to be commenced."
